We were visiting Parliament Hill in Ottawa for Canada Day and the next day decided to visit the Byward Market. We looked for a Chocolatier and found Stubbe Chocolates. We were lucky as Heinrich Stubbe himself was in the front of the store waiting on customers. Friendly and helpful he made a Hot Spicy Drinking Chocolate for us … delicious.
We bought a Beer Truffle and a Pear William Truffle. Heinrich said that a specialty were his chocolate covered cocoa–beans created with a special process and lots of love.
They were fabulously unique with dark chocolate overtones and interesting texture. We ate them slowly and were in wonder at the texture and taste. Crunchy but tender dark chocolate but neither too bitter or too sweet. I love them and think they would make great hostess gifts for the holiday season.
I also bought a chocolate torte cake as a hostess gift that evening. We tasted it and was lovely European style. Not overly sweet and just right after dinner with coffee.
What we liked about the chocolate shop
Nicely merchandised clean and variety of interesting chocolates to choose from.
Why we would go back
